Changing Our Eating Habits Can Be Challenging!

Changing Our Eating Habits Can Be Challenging!

When you retire you have a lot of time on your hands especially if you haven’t found activities to keep you busy. Eating and drinking can easily become your friend.  Be careful of gaining unwanted weight or becoming an alcoholic. Both food and alcohol can be comforting but unhealthy. Eating healthy can be difficult for some. Drinking too much alcohol can lead to trouble.

I love sodas and I love coffee. I love potato chips, bread, cookies, cakes, pies and chocolate candy. The first change that I made was to stop drinking sodas. I am not supposed to have coffee, doctor’s orders, but I have a cup maybe twice a month.  How can I give up bread and pasta? I have been told that sugar is the devil. But the tummy loves sugar! These are some of the things that I still struggle with. Do you have the same struggle? The struggle is the change.

Change can be good and it can be difficult.  It has been difficult to change my eating habits.  I have a personal trainer who is fantastic! He makes a 7-day detox that gets rid of all of the junk in your system while you are changing the type of foods that you eat. I am starting a new journey.

When I look in the mirror I am motivated to continue on this new journey. I see the changes in my body. I feel and look better. My clothes have gotten loose.  This journey is about treating my body better. My body deserves to be taken care of the right way.  I will be using it for a long, long time.

Some tips that I have learned throughout this journey:

·      Drink at least a gallon of water a day

·      Do exercises that you enjoy

·      Stay active

·      Detox before you start on this journey

·      No bread (this can be difficult)

·      Smoothies with greens, I like spinach

·      Get 8 hours of sleep

·      Eat foods that do not have preservatives

·      No dairy

There are other tips that I will write about later. Which one of the tips would you find most difficult to do? Not eating bread and drinking a gallon of water a day, has been a challenge for me. But I am working hard to achieve my goal to lose 50 by my birthday. When I set my mind to something I am successful. There, I claimed it, it shall be.

When You Need To Get Away Why Don't You???

When You Need To Get Away Why Don't You???

Planning is important, but sometimes doing things last minute can turn out to be a good thing. When you are retired you have the time (hopefully the money also) to take last minute trips. Taking last minute trips can save you money and give you happiness. I always say retirement is about being happy.

My Bestie and I are both retired and have busy lives in which we care for others. We were talking on the phone one day and both of us blurted out we needed a quick inexpensive get away to somewhere warm. Mexico is inexpensive and warm. Mexico’s monetary currency is pesos. The US $1 was equivalent to 15 Mexican pesos during our stay. The numbers change, usually beneficial to the US.

My Bestie was able to book an eight-day stay at Royal Islander a time-share resort in Cancun Mexico. We paid $130 each for a room on the top floor with a balcony overlooking the beach and the pool. Our round-trip,

non- stop airplane tickets were $300 each. Our flights were good with great seats going to and from Mexico. We were able to eat and drink well at a very inexpensive price. The total of the food and drink bill for seven days was $260 for the both of us after a $100 credit. We have spent that for a dinner at our favorite restaurant.

Our concierge booked us a trip to one of their other properties to listen to a Time Share presentation. Yes, I was tempted to buy. What they were saying made sense. We were given $100 credit to our account. This helped decrease our food and drink bill at checkout.

The water was blue, beautiful but a little rough. The waves were very high and exciting to look at. We got up early one morning to watch the sun rise it was beautiful. At first there was nothing there and then the sun crept up in the sky.

Most of the time we were lying out by the pool

enjoying the heat from the sun, the music and cold drinks, of course. We planned to go the zoo, a show and karaoke. We did none of that. We wanted tranquility and this resort was the spot for it. The majority of the guests were a mature crowd.

Why is it that I am always excited to go away and very happy to come home? This was a good vacation because of my traveling partner, I did what I wanted to do and I had a great time. Retirement is about being happy and this trip made me happy.

It is important to figure out what makes you happy so that you can be Retired&Lovinit!!!!
