When I want to travel what is the best way get there?

I love to travel. Ships, airplanes, cars, buses and trains are various methods of travel. There are pros and cons for each method. I prefer the car as my method of travel. I prefer to ride in the car. Notice I said ride in the car not drive the car.

With all of the restrictions that exist with airplane travel, traveling by car can be rewarding.

Most airlines will charge you to check your suitcase. You will pay more if your suitcase is over 50lbs.  Some airlines allow free carry on, but if you carry your suitcase on the plane it has to be a certain size.  There are airlines that will charge you to carry your small suitcase on the plane.  The ship, bus and train do not usually charge for your suitcase. If the suitcase will hold all of your clothes, shoes and accessories and if it can fit in the car it is free. Although you might end up taking more clothes than you really need. But I would rather have too many clothes than not enough. That is just my opinion

On airplanes buses and trains you do not always choose whom you sit next to.

When traveling by car you get to choose whom you will sit next to.  You do not have to pay extra for more legroom; you can just move the seat back.  You always get the window and the aisle seat. You do not have to worry about someone kicking grabbing onto your chair as they go to the bathroom. Okay if you have to go to the bathroom you have to stop, just don’t drink a lot of liquids.

Planes can get you to your destination quickly. Ships, buses, trains and cars take a little longer to reach their destination. Because I am Retired & Lovinit traveling at a slow pace can be a good thing.  I do not have to rush to get back home, because my vacation time is not limited, everyday is vacation time. Hopefully the route that I am traveling is a scenic route.  Looking at the scenery is entertaining. The only scenery on the plane is the clouds and the back of the head of the person sitting in front of you.

When traveling by bus, car or train you can bring your snacks.  Some airlines provide free snacks while most airlines will charge you for cookies, nuts or pretzels. The train has a café that provides snacks at a cost.  If traveling by bus you must bring your snacks with you.  When you travel by car you can bring your snacks with you or you can stop to buy snacks or complete meals.

Choose the method of travel that benefits you the most. You must consider finances and the distance to your destination. Since you are retired, time is not usually a big factor. Enjoy your travels.

Retirement and Travel

Retirement and Travel

This is the life! Cruising is the best first retirement vacation. Taking a cruise very soon after you retire is highly recommended. After six hours a day of commuting this cruise was very much needed. I was able to eat, drink, enjoy entertainment and visit several ports.

Just laying here as the ship pulls out is fascinating.  Looking out at all of that water and enjoying the breeze. Wow! Watching the waves brings a nice calmness. There is plenty delicious food and there is a variety to choose from.  All day and all night!

When you cruise you get to visit several countries in a few days. You only get to see a snippet but if you really like the country and want to see more, you can come back.  You may stop in a country that you really do not like, on a cruise you can come back to the ship.

There is entertainment every night. There are games that you can participate in or just watch.  There were days that I did not want to do anything, so I laid out by the pool or on the deck.

There are things that I recommend to help make the trip easier.

·      Pack as light as possible. You have just retired you do not need a lot of clothes.

·      Arrive at the ship as close to the time they give you when they will let you board. Lines get long later and there is always a welcome party.

·      Spend the night before the cruise at a hotel in the city the ship is leaving from or take an early flight

·      Base your return flight on the time that they give you. You do not want to have to rush or worse miss your plane

A few months later I went on another cruise with a different company.  I enjoyed that cruise even more. I was relaxed enough, now I wanted to enjoy everything all day and night. There are so many ways to be Retired&Lovinit!
